Project: LibSocial
Services: UX App Design
Year: 2020
To learn more about UX design and gaining experience with designing for an app, I created LibSocial, a librarian social app. It's basically if Instagram married Pinterest and had a wedding catered towards librarians. It is based off the social media aspects of Instagram and the gathering of content of Pinterest. This concept is unique because there is nothing on the market like it. While there are Facebook groups and blogs that do something similar, the lack of clear focus becomes a free for all. Through a safe and controlled environment, unlike Pinterest, this app allows users to share resources without the security risk.
I chose to center this project around librarians because I know them. Both my mother and aunt are librarians and have raised me in the library. After volunteering for years and working as a shelver, I have seen the inner workings of these establishments. Because of these experiences and my background in librarianship, I believe that this app could become a great help to librarians and their libraries.
This app is designed for mobile and tablet interfaces. Each platform has three scenarios each. For the mobile, users need to accomplish finding an idea/post and sending it to their director for approval, bookmark and save posts for future reference, and post a design/photo, write a caption, and ask for feedback. The tablet is centered for the director of the library where they can create a group of the staff for collaboration, monitor the group for statistics and interactions, and approve staff's proposals.
